The kinetic works by Jan Bernstein hide fundamental questions regarding time underneath their fine elegance. The continuous change of appearance, the delicate whir of perfect running mechanics and the movement itself working as a dynamic content unify his works to a complex reflection of transitoriness. With the minimal aesthetics a necessary silence for contemplation is transferred primarily hypnotizing the viewer by the pure appearance and subsequently confronting him with the visualization of time passing. Bernsteins pieces are gentle and sensitive possibilities to pause in times of loud abstractions.
Peter Wackernagel’s objects appear with their sharp and distanced aesthetics as to have fallen out of a virtual into our real world and report with a cool perfection about imaginary rooms. The idea of visualization of the digital world is one main aspect of Wackernagels work. He transforms this parallel universe into a sphere of possible perception, but changes the familiar light and shadow expectations to keep a sort of strangeness. In this appearance of aloofness Wackernagel raises questions regarding cognition and empiricism of possible forms of objective embodiment which constantly surround us.
